Biography
From a young age, I was drawn to martial arts. My older brother trained throughout his childhood and I always admired the discipline and strength that came with it. However, my early years were dominated by football. I played at a high level for clubs like Oxford United, Aston Villa and various other clubs until my early twenties. When I became a parent at 24 and started university, football took a back seat. It was then that martial arts came calling, though it took time and confidence to take the leap.
The turning point came when I introduced my daughter to martial arts, bringing her to classes was also the inception of my own journey. I joined Tiger after observing the environment first-hand as a parent, the community, values and energy were exactly what I had unknowingly been seeking.
I have been part of the Tiger family for over a decade. Martial arts helped me remain physically active, especially after moving into a sedentary career in law. It also gave me the focus and confidence I needed during challenging times. This growth inspired me to help others discover the same benefits, which eventually led to my decision to leave the legal profession and become an instructor.
My daughter and eldest son now train at Tiger too. I wanted them to develop self-discipline, confidence and structure early in life. My daughter, once shy and unsure of herself, is now a confident martial artist and instructor in her own right. My son, active and enthusiastic, has flourished both socially and academically since beginning his training.
Teaching martial arts is deeply fulfilling, it gives me the chance to witness our students transform whilst gaining confidence, overcoming challenges and pushing past limitations they once thought impossible. My approach is centred on respect, kindness and a ‘can do’ attitude. I believe in helping each student grow not only on the mats, but also in their daily lives. Through praise, guidance and mentorship, I aim to show them that they are capable of more than they realise.
Outside of martial arts, I enjoy an active lifestyle with my children, strength training and motorsports. These passions allow me to recharge so I can give my best to my students and the Tiger community.
Some of my proudest personal achievements are holding the 100m sprint record at The Cherwell School since 1998, scoring 70 goals in one season for Summertown Stars Football Club, and swimming unknowingly through a group of jellyfish without being stung.
My favourite quote is: “You can’t let your failures define you, you have to let your failures teach you.” I live by this, and it informs how I teach. Every challenge is an opportunity to learn, and every setback is a setup for a comeback.
Why train with me?
Because I’ve walked the path myself. I know what it’s like to lack confidence, to seek purpose and to want something more. I’m here to guide, support and push you towards the best version of yourself.
Why train at Tiger?
Tiger offers more than martial arts. It offers a community. A safe, inclusive and inspiring environment where you’re surrounded by people who want to grow and help others grow too.
